André Azevedo Alves

André Azevedo Alves holds a degree in Economics from the Faculty of Economics of Porto, a Master’s in Political Science from IEP-UCP, and a PhD in Government from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is currently a Professor at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, serving as Scientific Coordinator of the Research Centre at the Institute for Political Studies in Lisbon, and teaching in the undergraduate, Master’s, and doctoral programmes in Political Science and International Relations at IEP-UCP.

Since 2017, he has also been a Reader in Economics, Political Economy, and Public Policy at St Mary’s University, London, where he is a member of the Benedict XVI Centre for the Study of Religion and Society. Previously, he has taught at the Instituto Nacional de Administração, Universidade de Aveiro, and Porto Business School. He has also held visiting professorships at Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (2011), Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (2012), and King’s College London (2015).

He served as Director of the Centre for Studies and Opinion Polls at Universidade Católica Portuguesa (CESOP-UCP) from 2017 to 2019. He is a member of the editorial boards of Economic Affairs (UK) and MISES: Interdisciplinary Journal of Philosophy, Law, and Economics (Brazil), and has acted as a peer reviewer for numerous international publishers and journals, including Oxford University Press, Springer, Institute of Economic Affairs, Public Administration, Journal of Business Ethics, International Review of Administrative Sciences, and Journal of Religion and Business Ethics.

He is currently part of the Directorate of the Portuguese Political Science Association (2016–2020) and was a member of the National Council for Science and Technology between 2012 and 2015. Since 2011, he has been a member of the Mont Pèlerin Society. He is the author of numerous publications in the fields of political economy, public policy, political philosophy, and ethics.
